Night Shift

Working nights for a while. So far so good. after tomorrow, I'll be a quarter of the way done. It's actually nice to have a bit of a change for a while, and the night is more relaxed. There's more activity in the day with trucks being loaded, and some pieces of equipment only run during the day. When everything slows down, the feel of the place changes.
116 days down now, 117 at the end of the week. I'm surprised I haven't updated this in a while. I've also been a little negligent in my record keeping too. My spreadsheet hasn't been updated in a while. Oh well, next weekend. Also, my birthday is coming up soon.

Of Need and Want

My binder of old credit card bills, investment statements and pay stubs is getting pretty full now. There's probably no reason for me to keep saving most of that stuff. I want to get a scanner for it. That'll probably save a lot of hunting around at tax time too. Granted I'll still need the physical copies to actually mail in.

A need for simplicity

I cracked while trying to reconstruct the books for 2008. There are way too many missing documents and there's even more recent ones that I can't find. After this, I just want to settle down and clear things out. Things should be simple and straight forward. Searching around everywhere for something every now and then sucks.

Life goes on

Back to business as usual now. The investment property is under control again. The assets have been located and once we've got values for things, probating can begin. We also have to calculate capital gains though, which could take a while. On my to do list for today is catching up with July's accounting. This time, it's business. I've decided to just skip over my personal accounting for the month. There were too many transactions made that were split funny for me to really have the patience to deal with. Luckily for me, business does not really involve large numbers of odd transactions. I also had two software packages suggested to me by the accountant who's been handling my father's stuff, quick books and simply accounting. A review of those two packages is probably in order.

Finally Spent Something

Five days into the month and I finally buy something. Well, I bought two things, a slice of pizza and a cup. All together, $3.02. Tomorrow, I have to get groceries so that'll be more spending. I still wonder how often people buy things. Well, I've gone shopping once this month, and I guess I'll just keep counting. It's logged in my pda, but it's not in my computer yet. Oh and to continue with things, today's random number is 1326. I think I've biased the experiment already since I'm directly involved and I've largely bounded my responses already. I could be off completely and not know it.

Writing my own accounting program

Question of the day, do I feel like writing my own expense tracker? What leads me to ask is that I haven't quite been happy with all the things I've currently tried. There's some calculations I like to do which are impossible to perform with the way things are recorded. Though most of those are superfluous and of no important consequential value. I've also been lacking decent intellectual stimulation lately.
On the other hand, I'm not really up to date on any programming languages but I have dabbled in this sort of thing on and off for quite a while now. I also don't have a good history of finishing things, kind of like how I don't really achieve most of the goals I've been setting.
Not sure if I should really start this project or how well it'll go, but I suppose it's something worth trying out. Though maybe in the mean time I'll find something else to use just for the sake of having records.
